A £3.8million affordable housing development in Walthamstow has officially been opened.
Circle 33’s new development, in Beaconsfield Road, is built on the site of the former Francis House care home, which was closed by Waltham Forest council in 2011 due a reduction in people being placed in residential care.
The development has a total of 30 homes which are all earmarked for either shared ownership or affordable rent.
The scheme is a mixture of smaller apartments and larger two-storey family homes.
It is built around a new residential road that connects Longfellow and Beaconsfield Road.
It connects the surrounding area to the neighbouring Kelmscott Secondary School and Walthamstow Leisure Centre.
Circle Housing has built over 300 homes in the borough over the past few years, including the redevelopment of the pump house museum site.
Iain Taylor, London regional director for development for Circle Housing, said: “We are committed not only to delivering good quality homes but to creating communities, which will enable families and residents to thrive.
“It is particularly pleasing that this scheme delivers a sizeable number of substantial family homes, which so are desperately needed in the borough.”
