College leadership was described as “excellent” by an education watchdog as a positive inspection report was released.
Ofsted gave a ‘good’ score in all areas to Leyton Sixth Form College (LSC), in Essex Road, Leyton.
This was the same score it received in its last inspection back in 2013.
Inspectors were in particular full of praise for principal Kevin Watson.
The Ofsted report says: “The principal provides excellent leadership; with this senior leadership team and governors, he has promoted an excellent culture and ethos, strongly focused on developing the craft of teaching and supporting learners to succeed.”
The report also highlights that students feel welcome, safe and secure in the college.
It adds: “Staff have created and sustained a highly inclusive environment, where learners feel safe, work well together and enjoy their studies”.
The quality of teaching is noted, with the report stating that “teachers set high expectations of their learners with regard to the quality of their work and standards of behaviour”.
Student behaviour at the college is described as “excellent”, and they “participate in a wide range of activities which develop their social responsibility”.
Many go on to university after achieving very high qualifications.
Both students on A Level and Vocational courses were also said to make good progress and achieve or exceed the grades expected of them.
Principal Kevin Watson said: “Leyton has very clear values and a strong and united staff.
“We have stayed consistently true to what we believe to be important in providing a strong education for our students.
“We do nothing specifically to please Ofsted but it is always encouraging to receive external recognition of our commitment and accomplishments.”
