A professional tennis coach is offering a £100 prize for anyone who can beat his 100mph serve.

Aldersbrook Tennis Club coach Jamie Vivian is hosting a serving competition at the club in Blake Hall Crescent on May Day bank holiday (Monday May 2).

The 27-year-old, who has been ranked the second best player in Essex and 61st in the UK, is encouraging tennis fans of all abilities to have a go at beating his fastest serve.

He said: “I can serve at more than 100mph, so I want to find out if there is anyone out there in Wanstead and beyond who is faster than me.”

Anyone who manages to top Jamie’s score will receive half price club membership and a prize worth £100.

The competition is part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s Great British Tennis Weekend, which sees tennis clubs around the country open their doors to non-members for the day.

Aldersbrook’s May Day bank holiday fun will also include cardio tennis sessions, and fun double matches for adults and juniors.

The cardio sessions on the court will be led by Jamie’s father Phil Vivian, who is director of coaching at Aldersbrook.

He said: “Cardio tennis is for people of all ages and abilities who want to have fun getting fit – it isn’t just for tennis players.

“There will be no one judging your skills and doesn’t matter if the ball goes out of the court, it’s all about fitness and fun.”

Aldersbrook’s bank holiday open day starts at 11am on Monday May 2.
