Police and an ambulance crew were called to a mosque after a suspicious package was delivered.
The Noor Ul Islam mosque in High Road in Leyton received an envelope in the post that contained a white powder and offensive language.
The incident happened on Thursday July 7, the eleventh anniversary of the London bombings.
Specialist officers attended and the contents of the package were examined. They were found to be not harmful.
A statement posted by the mosque on Facebook, read: "On July 7, the Noor Ul Islam head office received an envelope in the post that contained white powder and offensive language.
"The Trust immediately contacted the police who arrived and to ensure the safety of trustees, staff and users, cordoned off the main office.
"Alhamdulillah there were no reports of any injuries or illnesses from those in the office. However an ambulance was onsite as a precaution.
The incident is part of a wider investigation by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 12.45pm on Thursday, July 7 to reports of a package that had been delivered to a mosque in Leyton with containing a substance deemed suspicious.
“There were no reports of any injuries or illnesses.
“Specialist officers attended and the contents of the package were examined. They were found to be not noxious or suspicious.”
