REPRESENTATIVES from migrant communities spoke at an event to welcome refugees.
Walthamstow Migrants’ Action Group held the event in Walthamstow Town Square on Sunday, September 4.
Canon Steven Saxby spoke about the importance of the area being a safe place for migrants to live.
He said: “We want Walthamstow to be a place of welcome for refugees and migrants.
“We had a wonderful band playing, the Romany Diamonds, and there was a very positive reaction.
“A lot of people from Europe came up and thanked us for doing it.”
Cllr Michelline Safi Ngongo, a refugee from the Congo, and Jennette Arnold, from the London Assembly, also spoke at the event.
Walthamstow Migrants’ Action Group are preparing to take part in the National Stand Up To Racism march from Park Lane to Trafalgar Square on September 17.
