Three charities have received hundreds of pounds in donations through a scheme that encourages residents to recycle.
Haven House Children’s Hospice, Mind Waltham Forest and Branches night shelter in Walthamstow received a total of £652 through the Waltham Forest Recycling Rewards scheme.
The project encourages residents living in flats to recycle by rewarding “green points” if they increase recycling and reduce the amount of rubbish from their homes being sent to landfill.
Every 400 points collected are worth £1, which can either been redeemed as vouchers for high street shops and online retailers or donated to local community projects.
Pushpinder Gill, director of income generation and marketing at Haven House, said “We are thrilled to receive these donations from the local residents of Waltham Forest.
“With everyone’s donations we can keep working to support families and children in the local community with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.”
The recycling rewards scheme is run by sustainability firm Local Green Points and backed by Waltham Forest Council.
