A mosque has stepped up to host an exhibition honouring Albanian Muslims who rescued Jews during the Holocaust after it was cancelled amid criticism.
The "Love Your Neighbour" exhibition is due to open at a Redbridge mosque on January 20.
The exhibition at an as-yet undisclosed location in the borough is backed by Yad Vashem, Israel's official memorial to the Holocaust.
It was originally supposed to be hosted by the Markaz El Tathgheef El-Eslami based in the Golders Green Hippodrome, but the event was cancelled days ahead of its initial launch on January 6.
A statement attributed to The Markaz was shared on Twitter by journalist Roshan Salih, editor of Muslim community news site 5Pillars and Iran-funded Press TV - which he said was issued by the mosque.
Wes Streeting has backed the exhibition on social media.
He tweeted: This is a great initiative and speaks volumes about how we do community relations in Redbridge. Unfortunately, the @JewishChron article isn’t accurate (and not the only time this week). Delighted another mosque is hosting though."
Barnet Multi Faith Forum, who helped to organise the exhibition, released a statement on Facebook on January 9 lamenting its cancellation.
The post from the group read: "The Barnet Multi Faith Forum (BMFF) is obviously extremely saddened and disappointed that this peaceful project, of illuminating the best values of human dignity, has been caught up in the international politics of the extremist."
The Markaz El Tathgheef El-Eslami has been approached for comment.
