A shopping centre is to host a special piece of artwork created by a British artist as part of the Borough of Culture initiative.
The Mall in Walthamstow will be showing the artwork by artist Mel Brimfield from April 24 to May 6.
It is part of the 'Ways of Seeing' exhibition which is the result of a partnership between Waltham Forest Borough of Culture and the Government Art Collection.
As part of the exhibition, the borough will be transformed into a special gallery with 68 artworks from 33 internationally renowned artists displayed in 28 locations in Waltham Forest.
The Mall in Walthamstow is a headline sponsor and partner of the first London Borough of Culture initiative and has provided a unit near the town centre entrance to exhibit Ms Brimfield's work.
The artwork is a celebration of British athlete Sir Roger Bannister and will commemorate his performance in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics where he placed fourth.
The exhibition will also feature a self-playing piano, also know as a 'ball-run' of instruments triggered by pressing a large red button.
The piano will pay a piece of music by British musician Paul Higgs and was inspired by the American experimental composer John Cage, and will feature fragments of national anthems and the theme tune from Ski Sunday to connect to the famous race run by Sir Roger.
Speaking at the launch, the shopping centre's general manager Rebecca Bird said: "We are truly excited to have such an iconic piece displayed within The Mall for our community to enjoy and to be bringing engaging art to those who wouldn’t necessarily go out to visit a gallery."
The artwork due to go on display was originally commissioned by the Government Art Collection for the London 2012 Festival.
The exhibition will be free of charge and will be open to all.
