Stand on the same spot today and you will see this: Higham Place in Higham Hill, Walthamstow.
But high rises are coming back as London attempts to meet housing targets set to meet a shortage of new homes.
This shows the former St Mary’s National School, Orford Road, Walthamstow, (undated). (Image courtesy of Vestry House Museum picture archive.)
The signs on the door read 'Connaught Hospital Stores Department' and 'Goods Entrance', so the building was no longer in use as a school.
St Mary's National School is now a Waltham Forest Community Hub in Walthamstow Village. It is pictured here in 2019.
