A Leyton nursery has denied its sudden closure is related to a failed Ofsted report after 16 years of serving the community.

Alert Kids Day Nursery, in High Road, Leyton, will close on when its lease on the building ends on March 31.

When questioned, company manager Arvinder Brar denied the closure was related to the nursery’s recent ‘inadequate’ Ofsted report.

In a letter to parents, he said: “Unfortunately, the business is likely to be closing and Alert Kids is projected to close on March 31, 2020 as our lease will be ending on this date.

“We have been out bided [sic] by another company who are purchasing the building.

“It is therefore with deep and heartfelt sorrow that I write to tell you that Alert Kids Nursery will be forced to close after 16 years.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience and distress this may cause you and your child.”

Worried parents were given just over one months’ notice of the closure; approximately 75 children will have to find new nurseries.

Alert Kids as given the lowest possible rating by Ofsted – the national watchdog for education – following an inspection in October of last year.

Previously rated ‘good’ in 2017, Ofsted labelled the overall quality of care and education provided as “poor”.

The nursery was primarily criticised for a shortage of staff, and the staff in its employ were found to lack “the skills and knowledge required to care for and educate the children.”
