Here is a view of a row of shops that may have entirely disappeared - they looked as if they were clinging to existence even when this photo was taken.
From left to right there is an upholsterer, a shop sign that reads Wills' Gold Flake, a shop called Carrie's, and a gentlemen's outfitter called Jack's Bargain Store
Then and Now: 1963 view of shop fronts (174-178) in Wood Street, Walthamstow. (Image courtesy of Vestry House Museum picture archive)
And here is a photo taken from the same spot today. Only the upholsterer's shop on the far left appears to survive in any form, although it is hard to tell.
Next we have an undated photo of Palmerston Road, Walthamstow, courtesy of Vestry House Museum picture archive. The writing on the gate on the left says The Lord Palmerston Hotel, in the background there is a horse and cart. The men in the foreground may be holding a newspaper.
Here is the same street in late 2019. The grand gate has gone and cars now line the street.
