A ROCK historian needs help to find out more about the Ivy Lodge Club in Woodford Green which played a crucial role in the formation of Deep Purple.

Simon Robinson is researching the history of the rock band whose hits include Smoke on the Water.

He said: "In 1969 pop groups played there and in June that year, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore turned up at The Ivy Lodge Club to check out a group called Episode Six.

"After the show he offered the singer and bassist, Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, a job in Deep Purple, and within days the most famous line-up of Deep Purple was complete."

Mr Robinson is particularly interested to find out where the club was.
