- Yesterday, King George and Queen’s Hospital has announced 17 more coronavirus fatalities after the cause of earlier deaths was retroactively confirmed.

- This includes a cluster of 10 deaths on April 7 and brings the total number of deaths at their NHS trust since the start of the pandemic to 153.

- However, this is nearly half the total fatalities at neighbouring trust Barts Health NHS Trust, which manages Whipps Cross and four other hospitals.

- Barts announced 10 new confirmed deaths, the majority from the last few days, bringing its death toll up to 290.

- The death toll in UK hospitals has now reached 14,576, according to Public Health England.

- This morning, senior clinician professor James Calder, who works at the country's maiden Nightingale hospital, has called for military expertise to help protect the mental health of staff and volunteers at the "exhausting" facility.

- And according to Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey,banks should speed up lending to small and medium-sized businesses to lessen the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
