Here is Father Christmas arriving at Uglows Department Store at 77, Station Road, Chingford, in the late 1950s.
This was an annual event where Santa would come to Chingford Station by steam train. He then travelled along Station Road on pony and trap being chased by excited children until they reached the store.
Uglows had a Santa’s grotto and a lucky dip for the children to receive a present.
The store closed in 2010 after serving its customers for more than 100 years.
An old RT bus can be seen in the background of the 1950's picture.
