Redbridge for Education donates laptops to Glade Primary School

Redbridge for Education hopes to address remote learning issues as families struggle to supply sufficient devices or access to the internet during the pandemic.

Since the start of the pandemic, many families have flagged that remote learning is difficult due to technical obstacles.

And even when lockdown restrictions ease so that children are asked to return back to school, if a child is told to self-isolate from contracting Covid, they could face similar remote learning issues.

Vicky Taylor, from the group, said: “We know the Government have made promises but the need here in Redbridge is enormous.

“We have been raising these concerns for six months - it was an issue before the summer, and the situation doesn't seem to have improved.”

A survey conducted by the group found 7,000 devices are needed throughout the borough.

The group has already managed to supply six new laptops to Glade Primary School in Clayhall on January 20.

And now with a fundraiser page set up, the group is ready to kickstart its campaign to supply as many laptops as possible.

She said: “We know there are people out there willing and able to help our community, we just need to join the dots so that their generosity can be passed on. So that is our goal.”

The group is also appealing for local businesses to either match the fundraising total or donate brand new laptops directly.
