This is an aerial photo of North Chingford in the 1920s showing Station Road.
Despite the train station arriving in 1878, Chingford was slow in its development until the 1930s, where the local council and LCC planned an number of housing schemes throughout the borough.
Gradually Station Road became a shopping centre and the atmosphere changed from a village to a town.
Some older residents still talk about going shopping ‘in the village’.
Use the slider facility here to see how the area has changed over the past century.
