If you were asked to name the three methods of transport synonymous with London the chances are you would pick a black cab, the Underground and a red bus.
Here there are nine pictures of the latter that have been shared in one of the Guardian's nostalgia Facebook groups, 'Why We Love East London - Memories', by member Len Mclondon.
Len's pictures, which were taken from the 1950s to the 1980s in Leyton, Walthamstow and further afield, show not only how buses evolved through the the years, but also offer an glimpse into how the areas they served looked back then. You can scroll through them below.
