Pictured above is Station Road in Chingford in 1935 looking towards The Green.
Jones Garage with petrol pumps can be seen on the forecourt. Locally known as the Smithy, Thomas Jones started the business as a forge back as 1867.
Horses stabled at the rear were shared between the Chingford Fire Brigade and Jones’s cab service, and often seen at Chingford Station waiting for customers who seemed to be few and far between, especially when the motor car began to take trade away.
The site was demolished and replaced with shops soon after this photo.
