A woman had died following a fire at a block of flats.

London Fire Brigade says four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the fire in The Ridgeway, Chingford, at 11.45pm on Thursday, April 22.

A ground floor flat in a three-storey block was damaged by the fire.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the affected flat, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was under control by 1.14am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
