Harold Wilson was Prime Minister, inflation rose above 24 per cent and unemployment climbs over 1.25 million for the first time. The year was 1975 and the picture at the top of the page of part of the Harrow Green Estate was typical of many urban scenes of that period.
Within 40 years though, the dominant tower block had been demolished and this part of Leytonstone had a visually improved appearance.
We have again been looking back through our archives and are able to give you another opportunity to see some of the pictures that appeared in a 'down your street' feature that was published by the Guardian in 2016, featuring some suburban scenes in our areas of East London.
