Pictured above is The Dun Cow at the bottom of Friday Hill in Chingford Hatch around 1905.
In 1834 William Peppercorn was listed as retailing pork and beer, probably at the pub.
Replaced in 1929 with the Manor Hotel and later renamed the Manor Arms, it was well known to have a good dance hall during the 1920s and 1930s.
Later incarnations included the ‘Horseless Carriage’ and finally ‘Wheelright’ before being demolished in 2003 for housing development.
