An east London pizzeria and an Indian takeaway have both been slapped with the second worst possible hygiene ratings following council inspections.
Smokey Pizza Hat in Ilford High Road and Bengal Rasoi in Winchester Road, Chingford, were both rated one out of five in hygiene reports published in the last week.
The Ilford pizzeria, which also serves chicken and chips, was inspected on April 30 – leading to a rating of one or ‘major improvement necessary’ after inspectors found the establishments management of food safety was poor.
Bengal Rasoi, previously rated three (‘generally satisfactory’) in 2019 fell to a one after an April inspection found the takeaway also had poot food safety management.
When inspecting a premise, food safety officers review three criteria:
• Hygienic food handling
• Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building
• Management of food and systems to ensure food served is safe to eat
