A Chingford chicken shop and a Walthamstow bakery have been given the worst possible hygiene ratings following council food safety inspections.
Chingford Chicken Village, in Hall Lane, and Yildrim Bakery, in St James Street, have both been deemed to be in ‘urgent need of improvement’ and rated zero out of five following inspections on May 12 and May 26 respectively.
Chingford Chicken Village, which sells fried chicken, burgers and chips, has a poor recent history of hygiene ratings.
The takeaway was good (four out of five in 2018) but has since had four bad reports.
In 2019 it was rated zero, bumping up to a one following inspections in February and May of 2020 but has now fallen back to zero.
Yildrim Bakery was rated zero back in 2017 and 2018, but in 2019 managed to improve conditions and secure a good rating (three out of five).
The latest report has seen that progress lost, and it is back at zero.
When inspecting a premise, food safety officers review three criteria:
• Hygienic food handling
• Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building
• Management of food and systems to ensure food served is safe to eat
