ILFORD’S MP says the UK must step in to protect Afghanistan families from “the Taliban’s barbaric regime.”
Sam Tarry Tory MP said British troops must step in and act following the take over in the country by the extremist group.
It comes after The UK Parliament is being recalled from it’s summer recess this morning to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
Mr Tarry said: “The scenes we are witnessing in Afghanistan are incredibly distressing, and the takeover by the Taliban casts a dark cloud over the future of the country.
“As one of the leaders of the former coalition, Britain has a moral duty to help as many at-risk Afghans as possible by setting up a fast-track resettlement programme - as Canada has done - to provide sanctuary to thousands.
“If we fail to do so we will be abandoning millions to their fate under the Taliban’s barbaric regime.”
The former Afghan president fled the country on Sunday - but it is unclear where he went or where he currently is. There was speculation he had travelled to a neighbouring nation Uzbekistan.
