Boris Johnson is carrying out a dramatic shake-up of his top team and has announced his top team.

A reshuffle has long been expected in Westminster and sources said the Prime Minister is determined to put in place a “strong and united” Cabinet.

Confirmation that a reshuffle was being carried out came as Mr Johnson led Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons.

“The PM will today conduct a reshuffle to put in place a strong and united team to build back better from the pandemic,” a No 10 source said.

“Yesterday, the PM set out his plan for managing Covid during the autumn and winter.

“But the Government must also redouble our efforts to deliver on the people’s priorities.

“The PM will be appointing ministers this afternoon with a focus on uniting and levelling up the whole country.”

Domiic Raab

Domiic Raab has been demoted to Justice Secretary in today's reshuffling.

Raab will leave his role as foreign secretary and become justice secretary following Robert Buckland's departure today.

His demotion comes after widespread criticism of his handling of the Afghanistan crisis.

Raab was on holiday in Crete as the Taliban swept across the country and was seen relaxing on a beach on the Greek island as members of the militant group entered Kabul, although he insisted he was in touch with officials and ministerial colleagues.

Rishi Sunak

Downing Street as confimed that Rishi Sunak will remain in his role as Chancellor.

Rishi Sunak was appointed as the Chancellor of the Exchequer after Sajid Javid resigned last February.

Sunak has also been an MP for Richmond in Yorkshire since 2015.

Priti Patel

Priti Patel remains Home Secretary despite widespread speculation she would be moved.

Patel is also an MP for Witham, a position she has held since 2010

Home Secretary Priti Patel left Number 10 after 30 minutes.

She did not respond to questions about whether she was still in the same cabinet role amid the Prime Minister’s reshuffle.

 

Liz Truss

Liz Truss has been promoted to the role of Foreign Secretary.

The MP for South West Norfolk takes over the role vacated by Dominic Raab.

Raab will move to justice secretary as part of the latest reshuffle, a role left open following the sacking of Robert Buckland.

Truss has been serving as Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade since July 2019 and Minister for Women and Equalities since September 2019.

The newly-appointed Foreign Secretary Liz Truss left Number 10 after 30 minutes.

The former trade secretary did not respond to questions about her promotion.

 

Michael Gove

Michael Gove has been appointed as housing secretary in today's cabinet reshuffle.

The MP for Surrey Heath takes over from Robert Jenrick who was sacked this afternoon.

No 10 said: “The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

“He takes on cross-Government responsibility for levelling up. He retains ministerial responsibility for the Union and elections.”

Mark Spencer

Mark Spencer remains as Chief Whip as Boris Johnson shakes up his top team.

The MP has been in the role since 2019.

Nadine Dorries

Nadine Dorries has been appointed Culture Secretary in Boris Johnson's cabinet reshuffle.

She said she is “very” happy with her new role as Culture Secretary as she left Number 10.

Oliver Dowden

Oliver Dowden has been appointed Minister without Portfolio.

He had been in the role of Culture Secretary since 2020 and has been replaced by Nadine Dorries.

Nadhim Zahawi

Nadhim Zahawi has been named as Education Secretary in the Cabinet reshuffle which saw his predecessor Gavin Williamson sacked.

Zahawi had been Vaccines Minister since 2020.

Downing Street said: “The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Nadhim Zahawi MP as Secretary of State for Education.”
