The Kings Head pub, Chingford, from c1895 showing the assembly room where many local meetings took place.
Being close to ‘The Green’, the pub had strong connections with Chingford’s administration and law for generations.
From 1805 to 1840 the Manorial Courts and Vestry meetings were held at the King’s Head.
The Welsh composer Ivor Novello was stationed at Chingford Aerodrome during the First World War and reputedly played the piano there.
A modern-day view of the pub
The pub dates back to at least 1782, according to maps of the time.
