SS Peter & Paul Church has been a landmark on Chingford Green since its construction in 1844.
With its dominant spire and striking yellow brick & black flint, the church was designed in a Gothic style by the architect, Lewis Vulliamy.
Robert Boothby Heathcote (lord of the manor) saw the need for a new church, as the Old Church (All Saints) at Chingford Mount was falling into disrepair and the population was shifting.

The church became Grade II listed in 1954.
