Pictured at the top of this page is Chingford Hatch shopping parade c1949 just after completion as part of the new Friday Hill estate.
The surrounding land was originally purchased by the London County Council (LCC) in 1936 but construction work slowed during the war years.
A modern-day view of the parade
A wide range of shops opened on the parade, but only the Co-op still remains to this day. You can see some shop units unoccupied.
