Graeme Doshi-Smith, Chairman of the City of London Corporation Epping Forest and Commons Committee (Historic forest with so much to offer, Guardian, December 16 ) urges us all to discover and enjoy the forest in 2022.
Well, he and his committee have done much to stop us.The introduction of high taxes for parking with extra fees to pay by phone have put many off.
A tax-free period of, say, 30 minutes would enable many of those previously enjoying brief visits to return and enjoy a cup of tea. I worry that the long standing tea hut facility may be unable to survive at the present level of visitors.
Mr Doshi-Smith should look to his predecessor’s guardianship of the Forest for inspiration.
