Pictured above is Old Church Road in Chingford, c1950.
A major shopping area since the late 1930s, the road attracted the big retailers such as Burtons, Woolworths and Boots the Chemist. Shoppers would arrive by trolley buses that terminated at Albert Crescent.

Today the weary shopper is catered for with many cafés and restaurants to choose from.
