Over the last few weeks Labour run Redbridge made some announcements on how it plans to spend our money. Some ideas have been very welcome, like more cycle infrastructure for the borough.
But is Wanstead getting the best deal? Labour has plans for a new lido in Ilford, but what about a bold initiative for Wanstead? We propose buying the Evergreen Field, the fenced off scrub land next to Christ Church Green, and developing a nature garden with native plants to provide a new home for pollinating insects, like bees.
This piece of land has for too long (since 1967 in fact!) been left untouched. What better way to fight the climate emergency than by cultivating a new nature garden to boost biodiversity.
Its time a council stepped in and did something bold for Wanstead. We need to break the status quo with fresh ideas, not more of the same.
