Rotarians in Chingford have elected a new president on an evening when good causes benefited from donations.
Robert Freeland succeeded Alan Glanville, who has retired from the role, at a special meeting of the Rotary Club of Chingford last week.
On taking over Robert thanked his predecessor for his hard work leading the club over the last two years.
Alan’s term of office had been extended because in the early months when the members had only been able to keep contact with one another virtually over the “Zoom” computer platform during the Covid pandemic.
Earlier in the evening Alan had presented a donation of £1000 to Hilary Cheng, the Chaplin of the Mercy Ship charity to support the organisation's work in providing medical services to third world countries.
He also was pleased to tell Rotary Club of Chingford members and their guests that the club had donated £800 to the Rotary International’s Appeal for Aide to Ukrainian Refugees, £400 to the local club for blind people and also £100 to the Joseph Clarke School for visually impaired children, as well as donations to the Chingford Food Bank.
He thanked all the club members for their help and support during his two years and wished Robert all best wishes for his year in office.
Hillary, after receiving the cheque, gave a short talk about the work of the charity.
The Chingford Rotary Club now meets at the Royal Oak, Kings Head Hill at 7pm on a Tuesday.
