Police say two men are “terrified” to return home after burglars broke in and attacked them – leaving one partially blind.
A gang wearing balaclavas forced their way into the property in Selwyn Avenue, Highams Park, in the very early hours of Saturday July 23.
Officers said they broke in at 12.25am before assaulting two men inside after demanding they hand money over.
One of the victims suffered a slash wound to his arm while both were sprayed with a corrosive liquid.
Police say as a result, one of the men has lost the majority of sight in one of his eyes.
The Metropolitan Police says both men were taken to hospital.
The Met are appealing for information and witnesses to find the suspects, who left the property empty handed but left both of their victims with life-changing injuries.
Detective Constable Tiffany Africa, from the local policing team in Waltham Forest, said: "This was a terrible attack and has left the two victims too terrified to return to their own home.
"I am asking for anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Saturday, and saw anybody acting suspiciously, to come forward immediately."
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 172/23Jul. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
