SPURS face a fight to get the signature of Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni with Spanish side Athletico Madrid also thought to be chasing the star, writes James Randall. Manchester Untied and Valencia have already been reported to be in the running as well for the £4.5 million rated player, but Tottenham have so far been seen as the only club willing to match the buy out clause.
Espanyol coach Ernesto Valverde has however reacted angrily to the speculation linking his players away from the Barcelona-based club.
He said: "This (speculation) does not benefit us. There is too much talk and it creates a feeling where it seems everybody is going to leave. We will see what has to happen at the end of the season."
Spurs coach Gus Poyet added to speculation with a radio interview with the Spanish RAC1's 'Primer toc' programme and claiming the north London club are also pursuing Kameni's team-mate Daniel Jarque.
He said: "Kameni and Jarque are very interesting players and every player that is interesting is welcome at a club like Tottenham."
Goalkeeper Kameni is seen as the perfect replacement for under pressure keeper Paul Robinson, who was dropped for understudy Radek Cerny earlier in 2010.
Scouts from the North London club were said to be present at Espanyol's 2-0 defeat of rivals Valencia at the weekend. The keepers contract expires in 2008, however it seems Spurs will want to move for the player this summer.
