Writtle Wanderers 14
Upper Clapton 8
(Essex One)
UPPER Clapton lost to Writtle Wanderers and are dragged back into trouble at the foot of Essex One table.
Steve Prosser's side started brightly away from home, but it was the hosts who ran in the opening try of the afternoon which was also converted for a 7-0 lead.
Clapton worked hard to break down the home back line, but couldn't find a way through and lost prop Scot Peattie to the sinbin on the stroke of half time.
Following the restart the Thornwood pack secured the ball near the left wing and having moved through several pairs of hands the ball arrived at winger Tom Roberts to touch down the visitors first score. Jake Philps' conversion fell prey to the wind to leave it at 7-5.
Clapton however edged ahead mid-way through the half when full back Danny Smith struck a penalty through the uprights from ten metres out.
With he clock counting down, a loose ball was gathered by Writtle which was then used to turn defence into attack and ended with Writtle scoring a second converted try.
