JUNIOR RUGBY
Upper Clapton 29
East London 19
(Junior Rugby U14s) UPPER Clapton's win was set up by a dominate pack who were able to win scrums.
Early in the match a knock on by the visitors gave Clapton an attacking scrum on the 22 metre line.
A good heel by Ross Biles and a fierce shove by the pack gave ample time for Lewis Dorling to set the ball out to Conner Reynolds who crashed over the line to score . His conversion was blown off course by the wind.
Clapton increased their lead from a quick tap penalty five-metres out with the ball going to prop Taylor Painter who powered through the defence to score. Reynolds' kick just drifted wide of the posts.
East London came back with a try although their conversion was also missed.
However just before half time East London scored again, a scrum on the visitors ten-metre line found the ball reaching the fastest player on either team.
He cut back inside through some half-hearted tackles to out strip the covering full back Matt Gale to touch down under the posts.
The conversion sailed straight through the uprights for the visitors to take a 12-10 lead at the break.
With the wind behind them in the second half, the home team soon set up camp in the East London 22.
Fast hands from Dorling and Reynolds gave Burke his chance.
A ruck on the visitor's ten-metre line was won by Chris Hill, Martin Platais and Jordan Elmer.
Dorling fed Reynolds and popped the ball on to Dobbin who in turn fed the sprinting Burke to dive over the line. Reynolds missed with his conversion attempt.
Burke scored Clapton's next try but this time the conversion was successful giving the home side a 22- 12 lead with nine minutes left.
From the restart East London drove the ball forward and got a penalty. This led to East London scoring their last try.
With only three minutes left Upper Clapton decided the best form of defence was attack.
Conner Reynolds took a flat pass from Dobbin to score in the corner.
From a very wide angle, Reynolds hit his best kick of the day straight through the uprights.
