PSV skipper Timmy Simons thinks his side deserved another goal at White Heart Lane on Thursday night writes James Randall.
Simmons told UEFA.com that the win at White Lane sets up the Dutch league leaders well for the second leg in Eindhoven next week.
He said:" Maybe we should have scored another goal in the second half, but when you win here, then I think you can say you did a great job."
Simmons added: "This is an excellent starting position for the return match, but we aren't there yet."
Both sides entered the last-16 clash after losses in their domestic leagues at the weekend - but the PSV captain however felt this played into the Dutch sides hands.
He continued: "The loss to Utrecht on Sunday possibly came at exactly the right time. Obviously it wasn't good, but we've been able to perform the necessary self-criticism and that might help us in the important weeks that await us."
New signing Gilberto - who signed for Spurs from German club Hertha Berlin - was a fault for the goal, after sloppy passing let in PSV hit man Jefferson Farfan Simmons admitted that he would have taken the one nil victory before the tie, despite second half opportunities to increase the lead.
He continued: "If I'd had the choice to take this result before the match, I would have signed immediately, stepped on to the bus and driven home again."
