SPURS coach Gus Poyet believes a moral boosting derby win over West Ham this weekend would help lift the spirits in the camp.
The Carling Cup winners have suffered back-to-back defeats since their Wembley victory over Chelsea a fortnight ago. But Poyet believes that if Tottenham can beat the Hammers it will set them up nicely for the return leg of their Uefa Cup tie with PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.
Talking after his sides 1-0 defeat against the Dutch League leaders at White Hart Lane last night, Poyet said: "When I was a player it was always good to play another game two or three days after a defeat, and I want these players to be the same.
"I know they will be ready for West Ham and we have to put on a good performance and win the game to go to Holland with a little more confidence.
"I think we still have a chance because I know what we're capable of and it's a difficult situation for PSV as well now."
Speaking to the clubs' official website about the defeat against PSV, he added: "It was a difficult game but that's European football. We had chances to score but now we have to make amends.
"The goal was a mistake and you just have to accept it. Unfortunately it was Gilberto, who was playing his first game for us, but that's football.
"Their goalkeeper made a lot of important saves and he was always in the right position. He was very good."
