(Coca Cola League Two)

DAGENHAM'S five-game unbeaten run was ended by Peterborough as the east Anglian side returned to the League Two summit.

Goals from George Boyd, ex-Dagger Craig Mackail-Smith and former Leyton Orient hitman Aaron McLean ensured Posh return home with a seventh-straight win of their own.

But the visitors did not have it all their own way as a late Dave Rainford penalty made the last few moments interesting.

Ryan Hall grabbed a consolation goal in stoppage time to ensure Daggers left the field with their pride intact.

Both teams started the contest brightly and Jon Nurse almost gave Daggers the lead when goalkeeper Joe Lewis just managed to palm the ball over the post but it almost looped in.

The hosts almost went in front again two minutes later when another Dagenham corner caught Lewis napping as he tried unsuccessfully to gather the ball.

At the other end, Tony Roberts kept Dagenham in the game on the half hour with a last-ditched block to deny the threatening Mackail-Smith.

After the restart the Daggers stopper was again in the action, this time to deny Dean Keates' shot with a full stretch save.

But he was helpless to stop Posh from going ahead - Boyd's storming run opened up the Dagenham defence and the winger smashed the ball into the left-hand corner.

The visitors doubled their lead when Mackail-Smith sliced through the defence before side-footing home.

Scott Griffiths prevented the hosts from conceding a third when he cleared a Mackail-Smith shot off the line with Roberts beaten.

Rainford then gave the east Londoners a glimmer of hope by converting from the spot after Ryan Hall was pulled back by Chris Westwood in the box.

But moments later Posh restored their two-goal advantage and the points when McLean drifted through the host's defence and lashed the ball home.

Hall tapped in at the death to give the scoreline a more flattering look for the hosts.

Dagenham assistant boss Terry Harris said: "It is disappointing for the run of games to come to an end. I thought we did OK.

"A couple of their goals I thought were debatable as far as off-side, but we didn't get it so we've just got to go with things."
