FORMER Dagenham striker Craig Mackail-Smith admitted it was hard for him to keep his emotions in check after scoring for Peterborough on his return to Victoria Road on Saturday.
Mackail-Smith scored the crucial second to end his eight-game scoring drought during his sides 3-2 victory that help send Posh to the top of the League Two table.
But Mackail-Smith couldn't bring himself to celebrate out of respect to the club that launched him on his flourishing Football League career.
"I was delighted to score, but I was determined not to celebrate as I spent two-and-a-half great years at Dagenham and I will always be grateful to them," he told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
"But I was jumping about inside and thrilled with another great win. It's a very hard place to come to and get three points, especially as they have been in great form, but we were desperate to return to the top of the table."
