Buckhurst Hill A 2
Xcel 0
(Doris Barker Echo League U11s Cup Final) TABLE-topping Buckhurst Hill picked up their first silverware of the season with a comprehensive victory over Xcel at Aveley FC's ground.
Having mastered the 11-a-side game on a full size pitch this season, they showed their legion of fans just what they were capable of - much to the delight of the team and the management duo of Bradley Maltese and Gary Fuller.
Xcel played well but not good enough to really trouble the lively Hill squad who were two goals ahead at half time.
Only on rare occasions did Xcel threaten to score and then Hill keeper Jake Kemp safely gathered the ball or it struck the goalpost.
William Osmond put Buckhurst Hill in the lead in the 16th minutes when, from the edge of the penalty area, he lobbed the ball over the head of the goalkeeper.
The second goal made double sure of victory two minutes from half time.
Lively midfielder Jamie Fuller was brought down and a penalty was awarded.
Fuller dusted himself down and promptly slotted home the spot kick.
To Xcel's credit they contained the Hill attack in the second half.
However, at the other end, there was little for keeper Lewis to do.
But he earned his winner's plaque for a fine save made in the final couple of minutes of the match.
