THE table suggests Tottenham have little more to play for in the Premier League this season.

They have already booked a place in next season's UEFA Cup, courtesy of their Wembley triumph over Chelsea in the Carling Cup, and are well clear of the dreaded drop zone. Mid-table obscurity surely beckons.

But boss Juande Ramos wants to finish as high as possible. A club like Tottenham should be in the higher echelons of the Premier League, even if breaking into the top four is well beyond them this time.

The Lilywhites have two intriguing Premier League clashes on the slate this week.

The trip to faltering Manchester City on Sunday should not hold too many fears, as the Lilywhites have already triumphed at Eastlands this season, in the Carling Cup.

And on Wednesday, Chelsea are the visitors to White Hart Lane, the Blues still smarting from their Wembley defeat at the hands of Juande Ramos' troops.

There are some who have suggested Tottenham have been in cruise control for a number of weeks, as far as the league is concerned.

However, Sunday's 4-0 demolition of West Ham gave a clear indication that minds have not just been on the cup competitions.

Spurs were back to their best at the weekend, and looked determined to finish the league campaign on a real high.

Totenham's away form has again been a huge disappointment, with just two Premier League triumphs on their travels, but City have hit a poor patch and Ramos will fancy his chances of notching a third.

As for the Chelsea game, Spurs will not need motivating. A second victory against the Blues this season would suggest the Lilywhites are getting just that bit nearer to breaking the domination of the big four, and give them much encouragement for next season, when they will be hoping to be playing for more than just pride at this stage of their Premier League campaign.
