A HEROIC peace campaigner and survivor of five Nazi concentration camps has died aged 97.
Leon Greenman, of Ingleby Road, Ilford, lost his wife Else and three-year-old son Barney in the death camps but dedicated his life to spreading racial harmony.
He travelled Europe to join rallies against far-right ideology and toured Redbridge schools to teach the next generation about the horrors of the past.
Mr Greenman was the only Englishman to be imprisoned in Auschwitz and was the last living member of a group of 700 Jews deported from Holland to Birkenau in 1942.
He died on Friday leaving no family members behind.
