ENGLAND striker Darius Vassell is hoping to help Manchester City end their goal drought against Spurs on Sunday.

City are without a goal in their last three games and former Aston Villa frontman Vassell is hoping to put that right against Juande Ramos' men.

"There's a lot of built-up frustration, we know we are a good team, that we can compete with the best in the league," he told the clubs' official website.

"Once we get the first win in, we'll be getting back to where we want to be.

"We're all disappointed at the moment, we started the season well and got ourselves into a good position, and we have dropped performance-wise and results-wise in the last few games.

"The good thing is that if we put another good run of results together we can be right back up where we want to be.

"We're scoring for fun and doing all the right things in training, but on match days maybe we have not had the luck and not put away the chances. New signings have settled in well, so there's no big excuse, maybe we just need a bit of fortune and once the first goal goes in more should follow.

"Comparing this season to last, we are in a much better position, we have the possibility of European football so the goals are there for us. It's down to us what we do over the next few games and whether we reach them."

Vassell is well aware that the Carling Cup winners, who are vastly improved under Ramos, will prove a real test.

He added: "He (Ramos) has turned it around, they have done well in all competitions and they are a force again. It will be difficult like any other, but we have proved we can beat the best out there. It should be a cracking game."
