SPURS have been linked with a move for former Manchester United flop Diego Forlan.

According to media reports, the Athletico Madrid hitman is pondering a move back to England, with Tottenham and Aston Villa said to be the main suitors.

Forlan has re-invented himself as a goal machine in La Liga after he escaped Manchester United in 2004 after an arid two and a half years at the club, where he netted only ten goals from 23 starts and 40 substitute appearances after a £6.9 million transfer from Independiente.

But his stock has recovered thanks to a fruitful spell at Villarreal where he scored 54 times in 106 appearances, before a reported fee believed to be fee of around 21 million took him to Atletico in the summer, where the Uruguayan has hit the back of the net 12 times in 25 matches.

And the 28-year-old Forlan now feels ready to have another shot at the Premier League.

"I didn't get much of a chance in England, but if there is a chance to come back and the offer is really good, I'd think about it," he told the Daily Star Sunday.

"I enjoyed living and playing in England, so it's still an option."
