I WRITE following the on-going strong comments from the Loughton Residents Association's Rose Brookes on the BNP stance on The Broadway regeneration scheme and the parking problems within The Broadway area.
These are of great concern as a locally-based issue but this is not confined to a local issue, but is a national matter.
If the LRA have been involved with the matter for much longer than we have held office, why have they not had their desired effect, and why now, at this late stage, are they reconvening a Broadway Focus Group?
A look at the reason why people drive to park in our area would not go amiss. A blinkered view of the matter does not help, neither does having digs at other political groups.
But saying that does not prevent solutions being put forward. If more parking provision was made for commuters it would alleviate the problems that local residents are suffering.
If an extended station car park was provided that would go some way to help. Instead of planning for additional housing adjacent to the station, which would only add to the congestion, a multi-storey car park would be a welcome addition.
Since the line to Ongar was cut commuters have to come in to this area to connect with the Tube system. Epping is poorly served for commuter parking. causing parking to be sought further along the Tube line - within the Debden and Loughton vicinities.
Blaming the BNP for failure to be short-sighted on the matter of local people being unable to park near their homes is therefore unproductive and unhelpful.
Councillor Pat Richardson, BNP group leader, Epping Forest District Council.
