IT is good news that Ken Livingstone has acted as London Mayor in defence of our post offices. Last week he began legal proceedings and is hoping that Post Office Ltd will reconsider its closure programme.
He has cited the same reasons against closure that those of us campaigning for the survival of our branch on the High Road have pointed out. Just as in other parts of London, we can expect an enormous increase in the population of South Woodford due to the recent and current massive building programmes.
But most importantly, he stresses the damaging effect that the closures will have on the elderly, the disabled and those who pick up benefits and child support.
For the survival of our community, we need to win this fight.
