Regarding your report last week about Madge Goward, who is still on the Tote at the dog stadium at the age of 94, I must say she is a glowing advertisement for working after the official retirement age.

We all think we can't wait to leave our jobs and have more time to ourselves.

I retired about a year ago and , after the first couple of weeks of "holiday", I was bored to my back teeth.

What's more, without my income, I found I could not afford all the things I had planned to enjoy. Even my company pension is not big enough to pay for many treats.

I have ended up getting myself into voluntary work and feel much happier now.

Well done, Madge! You are an example to us all.
