JUANDE RAMOS has promised Tottenham fans that his players will play with maximum intensity' for the remainder of the season following the team's complacent performance in their 4-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Sunday.
Spurs' hapless showing gifted Kevin Keegan only his second win in charge of the Magpies, and the margin of victory could have been even greater.
After presiding over his side's heaviest defeat of the season, Ramos has decided enough is enough. With rumours circulating of wholesale changes at White Hart Lane this summer, the Spanish coach has demanded more for his players, as many of them will be playing for their place at the club.
"It wasn't good enough and we all know that," Ramos told the club's official website. "It goes without saying that we owe the fans better than that.
"It is important that the players perform with maximum intensity and concentration for the rest of the season.
"I'm happy with how the team has progressed and I do not want all that hard work to go to waste. We intend to focus with the squad on maintaining the kind of performances that we have come to expect at the Lane and which our supporters deserve."
Tottenham find themselves in a comfortable state, with no worries of relegation and European qualification already secured after their defeat of Chelsea in the Carling Cup final, but Ramos is determined to give the fans something to cheer about as the season draws to a close.
The former Seville coach said: "I have said all along that I am determined to win every one of our remaining games - every point counts - and we want to finish as high up the league table as possible."
