A PLANNED strike over safety fears on the Underground has been called off.

Tube workers had voted in favour of a three-day walk-out scheduled to start at 6.30pm on April 6.

The Rail Maritime and Transport Union and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association say they have received guarantees on many of the safety and staffing issues from LU, including a halt to station closures.

The unions claim standards would be compromised if plans to close 40 ticket offices and cut opening hours go ahead.

Transport for London (TfL) insisted the measures do not relate to safety and previously dismissed the need for industrial action.
